Earlier, News1 reported that Ryu Jun-yeol joined the filming of a 10th-anniversary special for tvN’s Reply 1988, despite initial scheduling conflicts. A source revealed, “Although Ryu couldn’t attend the full membership training trip, he made time to film parts of the special.”
This sparked speculation about a possible on-screen reunion between Hyeri and Ryu Jun-yeol, who ended their public relationship in late 2023 after dating since 2017. However, insiders confirmed no joint scenes occurred, explaining that Ryu filmed his part separately from Hyeri’s.
Produced by Egg Is Coming, associated with director Shin Won-ho, the special will feature various reunion moments, including the cast’s nostalgic membership training gathering.
Reply 1988 first aired in November 2015, concluding in January 2016, and became a beloved cultural phenomenon by portraying five families in Ssangmun-dong in 1988. Its mix of comedy, family warmth, and coming-of-age themes earned peak ratings of 18.8%, launching stars like Hyeri, Park Bo-gum, Ryu Jun-yeol, and others to fame.
Beyond the screen, the show’s legacy continued with real-life romance between Hyeri and Ryu Jun-yeol, lasting until 2023. The cast remains close, regularly reuniting informally.
tvN plans to air the 10th-anniversary special, though the broadcast date has yet to be announced.
